Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah : Folk setting for Piano by Peter Schickele

Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah Folk setting for Piano by Peter Schickele
The oil spill has devastated the livelihoods of families in the Gulf region. Many are facing extreme hardship. Over 47,500 households depend on the waters and land. It will be a long time before we will know if people can truly safely return to work, and a normal life. A staggering 375,000 meals have already been distributed by Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana to people affected by this disaster. It has recently seen a 25% increase in those needing food.

I am dedicating this recording of Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah to the people of the Gulf and Second Harvest. A donation of just $1 can provide four meals. For more information and to donate, please go to www.no-hunger.org

BEHIND THE MUSIC:The internationally renowned composer Peter Schickele wrote this setting in the 1950s, inspired by a live performance of this hymn by Jean Ritchie. He felt her singing was a revelation. I feel that his setting is too, offering a place of calm and comfort, in the midst of an unclear future. Gratitude to Peter Schickele, John Guertin of Carl Fischer and recording producer Joseph Patrych.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK: The CD artwork was created by my sister, Karen Leon, a nationally recognized cartoonist/illustrator, and photographer. She designed KFC's animated Col Sanders. Her military comic strip, Private King & Company, appears in the 2007 HBO edited DVD Thank You for Serving. It has been distributed to troops overseas, including Iraq and Afghanistan, all U.S. bases and military hospitals.
